The quiz!

It leaped out of the tired hands
of the substitute like fire.
They scattered from its land
and its turn into hideous barbwire.

Tearing, trapping their precious grades
and ripping and destroying their GPA.

It turned and twisted the words around
until all the students laid flat on the ground.

The sentences and stanzas flew and wrapped
around their dazed bodies: confused and lost.
Until their brittle bones all but snapped.
The students paid the most precious cost.

For refusing to study sonnets and stanzas
and banking on having a free day extravaganza!

a choice?

"The truth is every man dies, but not every man lives." ~ Jason Aldean

What is life if it is not live
The purpose is to be,
be motivated by a drive
and it is not, not to be

Reaching out, rule breaking
taking names and pushing limits
You sit back picture taking
and life slips minute after minute

Ready, set, go... Go! GO!
Do something, Live somehow
Don't be another John Doe
It fades if thats what you allow

Of course every man dies sometime, this is true.
But if its life being craved, the choice is up to you.

simply freedom.

"With great power comes great responsibility."

And does great power just appear?
Does it come expecting to be clear?
No. It comes as confusing as it can be,
hidden as the idea of being finally free.

Freedom is making the right decisions
without advice or even provisions.
Leaving home and, of course, the nest.
Striving to prove you're the very best.

The reality of being all out your own.
The fact you're leaving the well known.
Being free can be an amazing right of pass
or turn into a very unfortunate impasse...

The moonlight bounced in all directions
Hitting the water, visiting other friends
Insisting on forgetting life's rejections
Swaying trees waiting to be still again.
In the dead quiet we look
Seeing for the first time
Into our lives like a book
Now realizing we can shine
Forgetting all responsibility
Never wanting to deny forever
And holding onto humility
Truth is, we'll be together
Evermore.

The White Cell

The lights pierce into these green eyes
giving the only punishment they can give.
And the walls stare down with that same
white, disgusted snarl to mock my existence.

The bars --oh the window bars!-- they are the worst.
Taunting me with freedom over and over again.
Through the spaces I see light, and I see life!
I see the perfectly perfect life I once had!

But my old mind only plays cruel tricks now.
I know I will never again see real sunlight.
Not unless I am dead and headed Elsewhere.
But; I know I gave up Heaven long before here.

The guilt! Here it comes back again. Quickly!
Even though I simply stare and count white bricks,
It slowly creeps back into my weary, harmless mind
To remind. And harass. And remind. And replay.

But I must not think of those dark memories now!
I must focus on life now and how I can improve.
So my walls and doors don't have to be plush again.
So I can better my self when I leave this quiet place.

Or if  I ever leave this wretchedly quiet place.

Thanksgiving

Not just for the pumpkin pie
It’s family coming from far away
The love will be in huge supply

Never want to say good-bye
The fun will last all through the day
Not just for the pumpkin pie

Crisp air under a bright blue sky
Children smile and laugh and play
The love will be in huge supply

Members grab the hands nearby
And all give thanks in some way
Not just for the pumpkin pie

Stories perched on grandpa’s thigh
His eyes get all misty and grey
The love will be in huge supply

Though the time may zip on by
Despite the stars out they stay
Not just for the pumpkin pie
The love will be in huge supply
